Very interesting. We are seeing a fertility bust right now with almost every nation headed to sub-replacement levels. This seems to be due to marriage becoming further and further delayed as more education is required by men and women to obtain the economic resources needed to start a family. I wonder what will reset the trend.

Great post. I wonder how much primogeniture vs partible inheritance had to do with UK approach to managing fertility. Seems like it would create a more bimodal society, and more self correcting fertility trends (Even if your father had 11 children, most of those children won’t be able to marry, only the ones who inherited the farm, so next generation only has 11, not 11 x 11.)
